The Lost Scroll by Glenn Dietrich
Two archaeologists compete to either prove or disprove the existence of Jesus Christ. Both have had a great deal of success, but one has the tendency to steal the other’s thunder. The more revered one, a descendant of the Prince of Wales, had discovered a document written by Augustus Caesar to Marcus Cicero which places the validity of the New Testament in question. During the archaeological dig in which he was thought to have found the document, a terrible storm ravaged the Ramallah landscape, causing Bartholomew Llewelyn Gruffydd (long since changed to Griffith), III to fall into a coma. The actual letter was not found until several years later when his nemesis, Blake Rhoads, recruited Griffith’s son to join him and learn exactly what had placed his father in a coma.
Once the contents of the letter were published, the psyche of religion itself changed, causing mankind to ignore common morals and mores, resulting in a vast array of violent behavior throughout the world. The story highlights the business partners of Falish Ezab, a smaller oil czar from the middle east. Blake Rhoads, an archaeologist blackmailed into Ezab’s service, attempts to prove that the letter is invalid by submitting it for carbon dating authentication. During the timeframe the world awaits the results, the reader finds out just how underhanded humanity can become through the daily lives of those characters. From a conservative ruler of a small east African country to the bi-sexual escapades of an alcoholic botanist who has successfully discovered how to clone a human, the reader learns that success can have a high price tag.
The story develops the characters associated with Ezab. However, as Blake Rhoads learns, some of those individuals are not what they had first seemed. Then, once the letter is found to be authentic, things go from bad to worse. Will the dastardly characters continue to thrive or will they be put to justice? Could the Lost Scroll forever change the face of religion?
Things may not be what they seem as the final reveal will have every reader stunned and begging for more.
