White Hall by Donald Wigboldy
The world of Alus is a magical world with a long history. Magic can make the impossible possible with a word or set of gestures, but magic untrained can bring about disaster.
In the kingdom of Southwall, a nation long at with the dark magic of the Emperor and his warlocks, schools for wizards were created. The schools were to both help foster new wizards and prevent the dangers of children whose magic could go wild making them a danger to themselves and those around them. White Hall is one of those schools.
Katya and Piotr had come to White Hall, the school for wizards, in different ways.
Katya's magic had been discovered by her own brother Sebastian, a battle mage, while training to duel wizard's in their tournament. With massive magical potential, the young girl was already a danger to her family and friends. Her magic was so powerful that it threatened to overwhelm her if her emotions got too far out of control. She was a small step away from becoming what every wizard feared becoming, a wilder wizard. Driven to the wizards of White Hall, Katya hopes to prevent her magic from becoming something she can't control.
Piotr had the power of a wizard as well, but his abilities covering nature had come easily to the boy. His magic wasn't something he feared and Piotr had already harnessed his magic for several beneficial spells, still young wizards were gathered by the schools both for their protection as well as the need to protect Southwall. Along with his twin, Nicklaus, a fledgling battle mage, Piotr joins other young wizards on their journey to White Hall to become a better wizard.
While the rest of the armies of Southwall fight and defend their land south of a great wall built to keep the Dark One and his hordes to the north, the young teens of White Hall study how to control their magic to become wizards and battle mages. Few from outside Southwall have ever had access to the magic of the schools of Southwall, but another student, the dragoness, Cheleya had come with her companion, Kel'lor, to learn from the humans of Southwall. A dragon and her gargoyle protector, the girl was also under the curse of being human now and had come to learn the magic of the humans as well trying to find someone who could help her.
No matter their pasts, the students had come and would have to train to become the wizards Southwall needed them to become in order to survive.
